The Ship For World Youth Alumni Association Turkey is established in 2005 by the Turkish ex-participants of the Ship for World Youth Program “SWY”.The Ship For World Youth is a cultural exchange program organized by Japanese Government since 1989 that brings youth together from different countries, give them a great opportunity to learn international cooperation and undertanding in an about two months periods, first by the activities scheduled in Japan, than by travelling by a ship called “Nippon Maru” together through a different route each year. Each year the participating countries and the route keeps changing in order to give an opportunity to different countries to join the program and in order to give paticipants an opportunity to visit different areas of the world each year.

Turkey has participated SWY Program three times with 32 participants until now-first time in 1992 with 12 participants, second time in 1999 with 8 participants and third time in 2005 with 12 participants. As SWY Alumni Association Turkey we have some objectives and aims to have a positive role in the future of SWY program with the coorperation of Japanese Government and the other Alumni Associations in different 41 countries established until now all over the world.

 

For all Turkish ex-participants SWY was a life changing experience. We did not only build frienship and corporation with the youth from all over the world, we also gain a wider perspective to the world issues by the cultural and educational activities we had participated during the program. So, as SWY Alumni Association Turkey we are very enthusiastic to work for future of SWY with our all exchange and volunteer works experiences. Most of the Turkish participants of SWY both have partic-ipated other exchange projects by other organi-zations in different areas of the world and have volunteer work experi-ences both in Turkey and abroad also studied and work in abroad for a while. We believe there is a big positive energy and potential in our Alumni Association to play a crucial role in the future of SWY program. We are glad to announce the establishment of SWY Turkish Alumni Association.

• To provide a means of communication with the former and present participants of SWY program in order to contribute to the spirit of friendship and international cooperation developed by SWY.
• To provide a means of communication with the Alumni Association of Turkey and Japnese Government in order to help to develop more connection of Turkey and Japan with both the future participations of Turkey in the coming SWY programs and in other possible exchange programs.
• To provide a means of communication with Turkish Alumni and the other Alumnis all over the world to contribute to the future youth, social and peace exchange programs within all these contries by the experiences of Turkish NGOs and youth workers that have participated different exchange programs until now.
• To provide information and develop domestic and international networks for local and international for social, volunteer and developmental new initiatives.
• To strengthen relationships among Alumni Associations in order to achieve common goals.
• To inform ex-participants about Turkish culture and help them for their will to travel, study, and work in Turkey, also inform them about possible social and volunteer works in Turkey and the region around it.
• To play a crucial role in the preparations of the future Turkish Delegations that will participate in SWY programs by experience sharings, evaluation meetings, presentations about the former programs.
• To help to provide reunion programs in Turkey with the collaboration of Japanese Government and other Alumni Associations.
• To play a positive role in the future of SWY program, the spirit of friendship and international understanding established during the program.
